Declan Fitzpatrick. M.I.A.C.P. Director, Renewal Counselling and Psychotherapy Centre, Lucan, Co. Dublin.

Declan trained at the Tivoli Institute and the Rutland Centre and holds a Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy. Declan is an accredited member of the Irish Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists and his work incorporates elements of the Psychodynamic, Integrative and Person Centred approaches as well as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

Declan currently works with a range of clients presenting with issues such as depression, anxiety, relationship/marital problems, sexuality and low self-esteem. He is particularly interested in the area of addiction and having spent time training at the Rutland Addiction Treatment Centre is experienced in working with individuals struggling with alcohol, drug or food addictions.

As well as these areas Declan has experience working with behavioural difficulties and addictions such as gambling and sex. Declan is Director of Counselling with the Centre for Sexual Addictions, an organisation seeking to provide help and support to people struggling in the areas of sexual compulsivity and pornography addictions along with providing training for other therapists hoping to work in this area.

While maintaining a busy private practice Declan also finds time to serve as Director of counselling and Project Development with the Institute of Behavioural and Mental Health, a recent initiative of Declan and some colleagues. I.B.M.H. is an organisation which seeks to integrate many of the caring professions and its aim is to provide help for people in a pluralist and cooperative way.

Recently Declan became part of the team at Cognitive Behaviour Therapy Ireland (C.B.T.I.), an organisation seeking to address and meet the ever increasing need for high quality and professional C.B.T. services in Ireland.

The Feldenkrais method is a unique approach to movement which seeks to develop further each individual's true potential for harmonious, fulfilling and graceful action.

Awareness Through Movement® lessons:

Group classes, with gentle, easy to follow movement sequences (generally lying on a mat). Lessons investigate and clarify functional relationships within the body, in order to create new and better possibilities for self-use. The emphasis is on learning to work with your self in ways that respect your natural structure and design for movement.

Functional Integration® Individual lessons:
Individual lessons, using the practitioner's gentle non-invasive touch to help you find new ways of moving with increased ease and effectiveness.
This form of the method allows the teacher to work closely with each person's particular needs, and can be especially useful when recovering from injury or illness, if you are experiencing severely restricted movement, or during pregnancy.
Lessons take place on a low table, fully clothed, where your body is supported through gentle movements that reduce habitual patterns of tension and restore balance throughout the nervous system. An improvement in quality and range of movement is apparent after each lesson, and can progressively integrate into daily life as you experience a wider range of possibilities for co-ordinating yourself with greater comfort, confidence and freedom.

Instead of repetitive, corrective exercises, the enjoyable explorations are structured to engage the whole person in a learning experience, that truly transforms the body from the inside out. Attention is directed towards forming a more complete sense of yourself in action, noticing unconscious neuro-muscular ‘habits’ that may restrict your ability to move freely. As interference from these patterns is reduced, the body’s inherent potential for well-organised movement is restored, enabling a sense of effortless power from the core.

Classes are offered for all ages and ranges of ability, and can benefit anyone wishing to expand ease, skill, enjoyment and quality of movement.

Abbe comes from a dance background (classical ballet) and has been working in the field of movement education since 1997. One of the first qualified Pilates teachers in Ireland, she co-founded and directed the Dublin Pilates Studio before moving into Feldenkrais full time. She is a fully certified practitioner and member of the U.K Feldenkrais Guild (www.feldenkrais.co.uk).
