Mindful ways through Depression
You might have heard about Mindfulness in a Buddhist context, but more and more we are hearing about mindfulness being used in medicine and stress reduction. And this is not a flaky therapy. In fact, there is a growing body research which indicates that Mindfulness may be a vital tool for healing and happiness.
The Mindful Way Through Depression, is by a set of a set of leading teachers and researchers in the field, led by Jon Kabat Zinn, a pioneer of Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR). (Jon recently visited Dublin to present a very successful seminar.) He also narrates an accompanying CD which has a number of guided meditations for practicing the techniques outlined in the book.
Mindfulness is a deceptively simple practise, but it is immensely valuable in minimizing the layers of aversion that depressive states of mind seem to perpetuate.
