Counselling
| I hold an Honours degree in Psychology with the Open University and a Masters in Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy with the University of Limerick. I have many years of experience working in the caring profession both with individauls and groups, including working with teenagers suffering social exclusion and in crisis.
I also have experience working with adult survivors of abuse and families who are bereaved through suicide. In addition I provide training to Social Care students up to Higher National Diploma Level.
My approach to counselling and therapy is client centred and non-judgemental. I work with my clients from an integrative perspective drawing on theories from gestalt, existential and human growth and development schools of psychotherapy. These approaches enable my clients to become aware of how their lives have been and are being negatively impacted on, in the here and now. In addition they come to know that through choice, autonomy, personal responsibility and meaning they can change and transform their lives in a very positive way.
Significantly through this process issues such as anxiety, depression, self-harm, abuse, addiction, trauma, feelings of loss, isolation and relationship breakdown can be explored and worked through in a safe, confidential and caring environment. |
